Curbside collection services
Authorized private recycling and waste companies provide curbside recycling and trash collection services throughout the unincorporated area. To find haulers that service your area, click here. 


Drop-off recycling centers
Many private and public recycling centers are available throughout the county. Click here for a location near you or call the County’s Recycling Hotline at 1-877-R-1-EARTH (1-877-713-2784).


Apartment and condominium complexes
Don’t have recycling at your complex? Want to do something about it? Consider becoming a block leader and help bring recycling to your complex. The County’s Recycling Section can provide you with bins for your apartment and brochures for fellow tenants. Click here for a guide to recycling at Apartments & Condos.


Oil recycling services
Change you own motor oil? There are many convenient locations that will accept your oil and filters for free. Click here for a location near you or call the County’s Recycling Hotline at 1-877-R-1-EARTH (1-877-713-2784).


Tire recycling
Did you know tires can be recycled into new roads, soaker hoses and athletic tracks? Click here for a collection center near you or call the County’s Recycling Hotline.  The County also hosts free tire recycling days, click here for information on the next event.


Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), Electronic and Universal Waste Recycling
Visit the County's Household Hazardous Waste Program
Many items can not be put in your trash and recycling bins. Paint, batteries, computer and television monitors, cleaners, motor oil and filters, wireless phones, computer processing units, printers and more. Click here for information on disposal or here for the next collection event.

Compost
Want to learn how to produce a valuable soil amendment from your food scraps and yard waste? Composting workshops and subsidized bin sales are offered in many unincorporated communities and at composting demonstration sites at the Cuyamaca Water Conservation Garden in Rancho San Diego, Deer Park Monastery in unincorporated Escondido, Summer's Past Farms
in Flinn Springs, and Crestridge Ecological Reserve in Crest.

Public Education: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
The County promotes recycling through school presentations, point of purchase displays, public events, printed recycling guides, and mass media. To schedule a presentation for your school or group, call 1-877-R-1-EARTH.  


Want to know where to recycle just about anything? The County of San Diego’s recycling and household hazardous waste hotline and online database are free and easy ways to find out how to reduce, reuse and recycle. Search our online database at www.wastefreesd.org or call 1-877-R-1-EARTH (1-877-713-2784) to speak with our bilingual (English/Spanish) hotline representatives who are available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.   Call 1-877-R-1-EARTH (1-877-713-2784).  Hotline staff can also schedule appointments for you to properly dispose of your household hazardous waste.
